The Voice Work

get to know your voice

Lisa has been a professional actor since 1992. Her career led her to play on the stages of The Shaw Festival, Atlantic Theatre Festival, Chemainus Theatre Festival, Manitoba Theatre Centre. She has a deep respect for the process of rehearsal and performance. So much so, that it led her to learn how to guide and support students in their quest to be professional performers.

The Voice Work is inspired by many folk, including Kirsten Linklater's 'Freeing The Natural Voice' teachings, meditation and mindfulness studies, a basic understanding of skeletal, muscular and vocal anatomy, Richard Pochinko's Baby Clown training, as well as, Alisa Kort and the Breath Experience.

Lisa's training includes BFA Acting from UBC and an MFA Acting from York University; The Royal Conservatory Artist-Educator Foundations Course; The Month Long Intensive at Shakespeare&Co; National Voice Intensive; The International Voice Intensive with Richard Armstrong at The Banff Centre; Baby Clown with John Turner; 200hr YYoga Certification, Yin Yoga certification.

Arts Club Kids Theatre Lab

I've got an exciting job coming up:

The Arts Club Theatre Company’s Kid’s Theatre Lab program provides an opportunity for elementary aged children in East Vancouver area to explore musical theatre in a fun, engaging and safe classroom environment. This program brings in 14 students from grades 4 – 7 who attend elementary schools in the Renfrew/Collingwood area of East Vancouver from July 10th to July 21st in the Summer of 2017. The class will run from 9 am – 3 pm on weekdays.
The program will teach the fundamentals of acting, voice and movement using musical theatre as its backbone. A professional drama instructor and accompanist will lead the students through interactive activities, trust-building exercises and team-building games that will eventually culminate in a small showcase where the students can show off their work to an audience at the Goldcorp Stage.
The classes will take place in a school in the participant’s local neighbourhood over the first week of Summer Break. The Renfrew/Collingwood area is a dynamic and multicultural area that is lacking in arts-based education programs when schools are not in session. Our hope is that we can offer to this type of programming to students who would not otherwise have access to it in their own neighbourhoods. The class will run from 9 am – 3 pm and will give many of these students a place to spend their time in a positive environment over the Summer when issues of child-care can arise for parents.
The Arts Club have met with representatives and teachers in the Renfrew/Collingwood area who have expressed a strong desire to make this kind of programming happen in their community. The program will be run out of Windermere Secondary.
·         To provide a safe, supportive and engaging environment for children over the Summer.
·         To develop a love of the arts and theatre in particular in our student participants.
·         To build confidence and a forum for these children to express themselves.
·         To explore and develop theatre fundamentals in acting, movement and singing.

I will keep you posted on our progress.
